Humanaut turns 6 years old. How will we celebrate? We’ll do it by throwing our biggest party in history in conjunction with the 2011 VIA Music & New Media Festival. All headliners, all night, raw space. We’ll kick it off after Underground Resistance closes down the main stage and go until Sunday morning with the biggest sound system we’ve ever hauled in plus visual projections and LED wall installs.

Oh yeah, and then there’s the lineup:

Donato Dozzy (Aquaplano, Prologue, Rome)
Nuel (Aquaplano, Rome)
Sutekh (Context, Washington DC)

live visuals by Matt Sterling, LED installation by Komputer Kontrolled

$15 @ Door or presale (from the Humanaut street team) if attending only this show. Admission to this party is already included in VIA All-Access, Weekend Plus, and Weekend passes. If you’ve purchased one of these, then you’ve already got your ticket to this.

Ryan Walsh has been deejaying and making music for over 14 years. He has deejayed vinyl under the name rw for 8 years, and retired that name in 2007 to focus on hybrid dj/live performances and original work under the name local. He’s played across the US and in a lot of differing situations under this moniker — basements to big rooms. His music varies from film-score downtempo to dub to house and straight onto proper drum techno.

This mix was recorded at Pittsburgh’s Z Lounge in one take using Ableton Live, an Akai APC40, and a M-Audio Axiom 25 controller. No post editing or mixing was done, with the exception of shortening of the set to fit time constraints.

Ryan’s career in music has also incorporated a significant amount of event production. He got his chops in the 90s, producing major light, laser, and sound installations for warehouse events. He was co-producer of the legendary FLUX events which were one of the first urban carnival style event series in the US, combining multidisciplinary art, multi-genre music, and community development. FLUX was written about in several academic journals and popular books as a blueprint for rethinking a community.

Ryan continued his production work through forming Restorative Events, one of the world’s first event operations companies that focused on environmentally friendly operations. He has also produced several events with Pittsburgh’s Humanaut team, most notably the successful club installation Hijack and the Centre Street Social event at Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, Movement.

In 2011, Ryan is continuing his work in production through assisting with the VIA arts and music event, rated one of the top 5 festivals in the world for October by the music mavens at Resident Advisor.

Ryan maintains a small home studio in Pittsburgh, PA. Feel free to email him.
