It’s been a long time coming! We are very pleased to welcome a few of the Beretta boys out celebrating the Detroit record label’s 10-Year Anniversary.

Since first meeting them through an official Movement festival afterparty collaboration in 2010, Humanaut has come to know and respect the Beretta outfit for their authenticity, dedication to their work, and loyalty to their city. “When Humanaut crew asked me to plan an instance of their new but already smashing Out of Order night, I jumped at the chance. They always bring a high production value to their shows and have commanded alot of respect among the informed dance music crowd in pittsburgh. It was fun to put together a lineup that would rep my own tastes, but also be a hit at a Humanaut party.

Jason Burns immediately came to mind as somebody I’d like to play this night. He’s one of Cleveland’s originals in the dubstep scene, both as a dj for regular nights and one offs, a producer who’s been getting play all over (“Back 2 You” was one of XLR8Rs top 100 Downloads of 2011), and co-promoter bringing in top acts in the genre for more than a few years. His style leans heavily to the deeper, soulful end of the spectrum, but he doesn’t really limit himself to one style or mood, other than just playing top notch tunes.

Vasculator is a long time fan, electronic hardware geek, and producer of techno and left field electronic music, but has existed mostly on the fringes of pittsburgh’s scene. He’s been a collaborator with the Technoir Audio crew doing live techno, toured doing modular synth work with
industrial act Prometheus Burning, and played blistering original breakcore live sets in Detroit and the west coast. This time he’s doing and all new stripped down techno live set that combines his digital and analog gear.

I was looking for one more guest to round out the night, when I remembered that Jose “Mr. Hamilton” was looking to put together a classic IDM set. You may know him from his live sets as Mr. Hamilton or as part of Ekofield, or his deep house sets at various spots around town, but he’s also a big fan of left field electronic music and will be opening up with a set of 90s/ early 2000′s selections.

Jose Luis Sagastegui Becerril, a.k.a. Jose Bec, was born and raised in Mexico City. His love of music began by listening to classic rock with his father. When he was 12, Jose discovered the world of electronic music through a radio show broadcasting European Techno beats and he knew he wanted to be a DJ. After bringing beats to people at parties and bars in Mexico, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, in 2006.

Since arriving in Pittsburgh, Jose has refined his mixing techniques by immersing himself in the Pittsburgh and International “Underground” scene. He has built on what he used to mix in Mexico and forged his own non-commercial style.
His influences on the decks are mixture of European techno, minimal, Tech house, and house from Chicago and NY.

Jose Bec spins at private parties and events sharing decks with Humanaut one of the most respectful crew in the city also in clubs and bars in the Steel City. He now wants to share with Mexico his new-found style and widen his reach in the electronic music scene.

This mix was recorded at Pittsburgh’s Z Lounge in one take using Ableton Live, an Akai APC40, and a M-Audio Axiom 25 controller. No post editing or mixing was done, with the exception of shortening of the set to fit time constraints.

Ryan’s career in music has also incorporated a significant amount of event production. He got his chops in the 90s, producing major light, laser, and sound installations for warehouse events. He was co-producer of the legendary FLUX events which were one of the first urban carnival style event series in the US, combining multidisciplinary art, multi-genre music, and community development. FLUX was written about in several academic journals and popular books as a blueprint for rethinking a community.

Ryan continued his production work through forming Restorative Events, one of the world’s first event operations companies that focused on environmentally friendly operations. He has also produced several events with Pittsburgh’s Humanaut team, most notably the successful club installation Hijack and the Centre Street Social event at Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, Movement.

Electronic composer, web designer, videographer, sci-fi junkie, apple computer expert & world class DJ, these are but a few of the hats worn by the anomaly that is Claude Young Jr. This Detroit native who now resides in Tokyo (Japan) was born the son of legendary WJLB (Detroit) radio personality, station founding member and production wizard Claude Young Sr.

After early interest in television production and some experience working as an intern (and later mix show DJ) for several radio programs in the early 90′s, CYJ intensified his interest in what he refers to as the art of the DJ. Coached by close friend and mentor Anthony “Shake” Shakir he became a natural almost literally overnight.

His editing & production skills in studio (taught to him by his father & years of experimentation alone) saw him work on a string of records for both independent and major record labels. Musto & Bones, Technasia, Gary Numan, Carl Craig, Joey Beltram, Inner City and 4Hero are but a few of the artist either remixed or edited by Young.

He was also cofounder of two of Detroit electronic music’s most respected record imprints: Frictional Records (with Anthony “Shake” Shakir) and 7th City Records (with Dan “DBX” Bell).

For those that were in Detroit for Movement 2011, you know why this man’s coming to town. Please help us give him a warm Pittsburgh welcome.

Thomas Schreiber brings a playful cleverness, warmth and emotion to the dancefloor. His style of stripped-down funk and rhythm is back-dropped by a tapestry of strange and sexy soundscapes.

Thomas began mixing records in 1996 and moved to Philadelphia in 2002 when the landscape there was sparse. As the key founding member of rizumu, Thomas bridged the gap between the already established local collectives and organized undergrounds on a weekly and monthly basis, thereby setting up a foundation around which the growing community would converge.

Taking influence from the East Coast scene of the mid to late nineties and from the early Detroit Electronic Music Festivals, Thomas’s vision for making Philadelphia a hub for touring artists soon became a reality. Artists such as Derrick May, Daniel Bell, Kenny Larkin, Marcel Dettmann, Frank Bretschneider, Dandy Jack, Bart Skils, Seth Troxler and Josh Wink would play at the dark and intimate undergrounds for rizumu’s audience of knowledgeable listeners and dedicated dancers.

Thomas played events in NYC, Moscow, Detroit, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Santa Fe and Denver, for Kontrol, The Buker, Droid Behavior, Make Mistakes and more.

In 2009, Thomas picked up and moved to New Mexico to try something different. He immediately was at home with the Rocky Mountain techno scene and was fortunate to play some extremely memorable sets in both Santa Fe and Denver during this time. However, an unexpected turn of events found Thomas making the transatlantic move to Madrid only a year after his arrival.

Now settled into life in Madrid, Thomas has begun the journey of imparting his experiences to tape, quietly preparing for what comes next.

Skull Disco. A club night called FWD>>. England’s West country bass HQ, Bristol. These are just a few things you may associate with second wave dubsteppa Laurie ‘Appleblim’ Osbourne. He may have revved up his journey along the musical motorway with stints in early ‘90s NME favourites The Monsoon Bassoon, but it was a creative technology course at Uni in 2003 that sparked this phase of his life into existence and saw the birth of Skull Disco, which he ran with Shackleton. At early FWD>> and DMZ nights Laurie and his crew would be first in last out, and it was links he forged at these early dubstep nights (and his regular emails to the generic Ammunition in-box) that got him a job working at Tempa. Since then he’s released deep, deadly and esoteric tunes on Skull Disco, launched his own Apple Pips label, gone podcast-ballistic with widescreen sets for Dub War and Rinse FM, and fronted the latest in the venerable line of Dubstep Allstars mix compilations. edj: Can you give us a little introduction to Sight Unseen – who are you, where are you based, how long have you been producing and what’s your history within drum & bass?

Sight Unseen are Adam and Preslav and we represent the Steel City – Pittsburgh. We’ve been producing drum and bass for about 8 years now, but we became obsessed with the music in the 90s.

edj: Do you make any other music, or is it strictly D&B?

We’re involved in various other projects covering different tempos of dance music and beyond. Some of those have seen the light of day already, more will hopefully see release over the next year.

edj: You are extremely enigmatic in your online presence with information about you scarce. Is this a conscious decision, and if so, why?

Patrice Scott’s raw and emotively charged sound is at the forefront of the latest wave of electronic music from Detroit, but he definitely isn’t the new kid on the scene.

If you’ve had your eye on the new blood coming out of the Motor City’s electronic music scene over the last few years, then you’ll almost certainly have heard Patrice Scott’s name uttered more than a few times. Scott witnessed the first waves of Detroit house and techno, becoming known on the local DJ scene and holding down residencies in both his native city and just across the border in Toronto. It wasn’t until 2006, though, that he entered the world of recorded music, releasing the melodically rich deep house of the Atmospheric Emotions EP on his own Sistrum Recordings. And it’s been difficult to ignore him since. Scott is deservedly rising through the ranks of the DJ elite.

Truely a consumate artist, he prefers to play without the use of computers or software. Rudiman’s style of live performance is done by very few others. It’s almost completely impromptu and “off the cuff”. He chooses to conduct his sets like a jazz band would: letting every machine flow like performers and have their particular freedoms and moment to shine. There is no preset structure or even style. It is all particular to that given day. Over 90% of all composition of the music and rhythms are composed there on the spot, for him and the audience to experience together for the first time

In 2009 a series of five anonymously produced ink stamped vinyl recorded releases appeared in the global techno scene under the mysterious guise “Traversable Wormhole. The series released exclusively on vinyl.

The sound of “Traversable Wormhole is a unique signature of sci-fi laden techno music with gaps of time, space & bass in between sound & rhythm. Within a month’s time of it’s conception Volume 2 of the series appeared and a huge buzz was soon amassed on the project. Accusations on who was the artist behind the project ran wild. People all over the techno scene had made theories to who was behind it. The project quickly received huge support from many of the world’s most renowned techno shops such as Rub A Dub , Hardwax, Juno & Decks. Word traveled fast through the wormhole and it was soon reported that globally respected dj’s such as Chris Liebing, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Mathew Herbert, Ryan Elliot, Andrew Galluzi, Surgeon, Function, Frankie Bones, Surgeon, DJ Deep & Radioslave were all supporting the sound of TW. With the series fast approaching into further galaxies with the appearance of Vol 3. Techno cult blogsite MNMLSSG (http://mnmlssg.blogspot.com) tracked down TW via Twitter. A sonar ping was sent back to the popular blog and soon a “Traversable Wormhole” mix appeared anonymously on the site, receiving rave reviews. Their were also reports through the anonymous “Traversable Wormhole” Myspace profile† that dj’s from the dubstep scene were supporting the songs that had more of a broken beat structure in the series. As the series transgressed to Vol 5 by the year end of 2009 the mystique of anonymity continued to grow.??To usher in the very start of 2010 “Traversable Wormhole” would release the sixth volume of the series. At the same time 20 year veteran techno artist/dj Adam X originally from NYC and now residing in Berlin would be invited to partake in a feature called “Playing Favorites” on “Resident Advisor” the worlds biggest electronic music website. As Adam’s feature read towards the end he would subtly take claim as the producer behind “Traversable Wormhole”.

Join us as Adam’s Traversable Wormhole project is unwrapped in Pittsburgh.

Paul Rose is one of the most influential figures in the worlds of both dubstep and techno. As label head of Hotflush Recordings, he’s helped release work from Benga, Shackleton and, of course, Joy Orbison and his RA #1 single of 2009, “Hyph Mngo.” Events-wise, he’s one of the masterminds behind Sub:stance, a night that has brought the likes of Mala, D-Bridge, Scion and Kode9 to Berlin’s Berghain. And, under the Scuba name, he’s produced two full-lengths of remarkably diverse work that reflect his wide-ranging taste and machine mastery.

The Triangulation album showcases Scuba’s talent for all things bass-oriented. But his recently birthed SCB moniker has reflected another huge interest of Rose’s, that of the four-four variety. Described recently as “Balearic techno with a rainy soul” by RA’s Max Bacharach, Rose’s SCB project has the same focus on emotional body music. It’s simply filtered through a different tempo.

Up until 2008 Dave Pezzner was virtually unknown to the electronic dance music community, aside from his works in the duo Jacob London (Classic Music, Doubledown, U-Freqs). For 16 years he cut his chops with partner Bob Hansen, creating eccentric house and break beat rhythms often crossing the lines between bad-ass, funky and hilarious.

In the winter of 2008, Pezzner took to his own studio to begin work on his first solo output composing songs that are more serious, with an abstract artistic sensibility. Quickly Dave’s catalog began to materialize with a signature sound: Lofty percussive themes with intentions to create hypnotic soundscapes for the body as well as the brain. It wasn’t long before Pezzner found his first 5 songs scooped up by London-based Freerange Records, covering the first two EP’s of his career, “Other Lover” and the epic three-part masterpiece “Almost Here.” These two EPs garnered him massive support from artists as varied as John Digweed, Laurent Garnier, Peter Kruder, Steve Bug and Ben Watt, setting up Pezzner as a producer on the rise.

These first two releases laid a solid foundation for his career and follow-ups are now in the pipeline on Om Records, London’s Urbantorque Recordings, plus another EP for Freerange. Dave has also got an arsenal of remixes forthcoming for heavyweights including Josh Wink, Mark Farina, and Mike Monday. Its a dizzying number of releases for an emerging artist, but now that Pezzner’s stepped out on his own, he’s definitely got a lot to say.

Widely regarded as one of the best, most notorious techno monthlies in the US, Craig and Alland have been defining the sound of San Fran for almost 5 years.

We’re combining the sound of [KONTROL], the production quality you know from Humanaut + Hijack, and the legendary former space of Pegasus for one memorable night.

About Alland:
Alland Byallo is one of the busiest men in the San Francisco Techno community. Having produced electronic music for over 10 years (and DJ’d for nearly as long) Alland come to be an international DJ and producer, releasing music on respected US and European record labels such as Liebe*Detail, Floppy Funk, Dirtybird, and Utensil Recordings, and headlining events on both sides of the country. His music, a blend of old and new elements of techno, house and minimal, is regularly charted and has been licensed to CD’s released by labels like Universal and Proton Music.

As owner of Nighlight Music and resident, designer and A&R for [KONTROL],  Alland has quickly grown to be one of the most in-demand Techno talents that SF has to offer.

About Craig:
Hailing from the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Craig found his early tastes in music heavily influenced by the environment that surrounded him. His influences of hard-edged music initially turned his ears towards the gritty sounds of D’n’B and Detroit Techno as his passion for the beat flourished. Within a few years, Craig sold his guitar, bass, and amps to buy his first set of 1200’s. He started off playing breakbeats and D’n’B, but soon after found his art in techno, due to it’s complexity and his ability to create longer mixes with more minimal tracks. Soon after, in the wake of a burgeoning rave scene, he decided it was time to introduce other people to the music he loved and played, and in 1998, at the ripe old age of 19, he threw his first event.

In the years to come Craig continued to host events, from small club after-hours to 5000 person warehouse raves, bringing the likes of Green Velvet, The Stickmen, Mike Dearborn, Marco Carola, Funk’ D’void, Slam, and H-Foundation to name a few. After relocating to San Francisco in 2001 in an effort to broaden his horizons, he started to get more into house music, or as people so often call it, he became “San Francsicanized.” The result: [KONTROL] and a host of remixes on Mothership and blipswitch.

Debuting with “I Believe” on the monumental (10 Records) compilation “Techno 2: The Next Generation” (alongside Carl Craig, Marc Kinchen, and Jay Denham) in 1990. Octave One (also recording as Random Noise Generation) is the brainchild of the phenomenal native sons of Detroit, MI (USA), the Burden Brothers. The core unit of the band, made up of Lenny Burden and Lawrence Burden (with revolving members of Lynell Burden, Lorne Burden, and Lance Burden), have had the privilege of touring live throughout the world, including the countries of Germany, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Vienna, The Netherlands, the UK, Ireland, Scotland, Malaysia, Japan, the US, and Russia, among many other places. The monumental band is part of the so called “second wave” of Detroit Techno.

2000 brought the biggest Octave One release to date, “Blackwater”. The track has appeared on over 70 compilation albums worldwide (with comp sales exceeding one million collectively). It has been released domestically in 5 countries (US, UK, Spain, Germany, and Australia). The track has also been a favorite on the decks of some of the world’s best known DJs, Little Louie Vega, Danny Teneglia, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Jonathan Peters, Laurent Garnier, among many, many others. “Blackwater” became a new turning point for the brothers. A deep passion for music, connecting with people, and a love for life are the focus for Deepak Sharma as he continues to grow as a DJ, producer and record label owner.

The story of Deepak Sharma’s rise can be traced back to 2001 when as a promoter; he was booking and playing alongside some of the world’s most recognizable talent. One particular night opened the door for Deepak was booking Fabric resident’s Craig Richards and Lee Burridge as Tyrant at his Wednesday night soiree at a lounge in Brooklyn named Boogaloo. The night was a resounding success, and lead to Deepak being asked to release a mix compilation reflective of his style of music and vibe of the venue. Finally, after nearly two years of work, Deepak released Boogaloo. Brooklyn. 3:23pm in late 2004 with music from producers that weren’t well known at the time or a style and sound as popular as today. The compilation received worldwide praise with reviews in leading dance music publications such as De:bug, BPM, Remix, BPM, URB, DJ Times, Raveline, Beatfactor, ClubbingSpain and Sound Revolt. Germany’s prestigious De:bug Magazine called it, “One of the finest mix CD’s I’ve heard in a long time.” Similar high praise came from Big Shot Magazine, who said, “Sharma indulges us in some of the most pristine minimal techno we’ve heard in ages. This is mandatory late-night/morning after listening. Not since Terry Francis’ ‘Architecture’ series has a mix compilation explored the realm of tech-house so well.” The release of the compilation opened the doors for Deepak to begin to tour North America, South America and gig in Europe. Besides the numerous clubs, festivals and lounges Deepak has played, one highlight includes spinning an in-store DJ set at Virgin Megastore in Union Square, New York City as promotion for the release of the mix compilation.

It was during this time Deepak turned his focus to producing. After the release of the compilation, Deepak met Dieter Krause who also produces under the moniker, Laplaceausoleil and had a track on the mix. It wasn’t long before the two began to work on tracks together, leading to their partnership. Eventually in 2006, Deepak decided to start Hidden Recordings as a means to take their sound to the world.

Since then, Hidden Recordings has provided a wide range of techno to hundreds of DJs and fans. The label’s sound ranges from deep techno to atmospheric chill-out with quirky, groovy bass lines and has been played in big room gigs, festivals, to smaller lounges and early morning terraces.
The press has taken notice of the duo’s rising popularity, with AOL Music’s Spinner.com comparing their sound and style to minimal techno giants Lusine, Superpitcher and Booka Shade. In addition the duo has been reviewed in prominent magazines such as XLR8R, DJ Times, Time Out New York, MixMag (UK), Trax (France) and Raveline (Germany), licensed music to UK label Four-Twenty for their Music02 mix compilation and peaked as high as #3 on the Balance Record Pool Top 50 Chart. Global recognition continues to mount as their tracks have reached Top 20 downloads on Germany’s Kompakt-MP3, and Top 10 downloads on HRFQ in Japan.

In 2007, Deepak and Dieter beat out established publishing groups and produced music for Singapore’s Ogilvy & Mather advertising agency and their client, Heineken Global.

In 2008, Deepak and Dieter decided to expand the Hidden Recordings roster to include like-minded artists that they admire and enjoy musically with Gustavo Lamas, Karri O, Lineas De Nazca and Monkey Brothers. Each release will be complete with a remix by Deepak and Dieter. The label currently has five releases available, and major worldwide partners include Beatport, Kompakt, Juno, DanceRecords, and HRFQ.

The label has seen support from artist/djs like Pier Bucci, Butane, Argenis Brito, Alexi Delano, Greg Shiff, Maetrik, Noah Pred, Patrick Bateman, Detroit Techno Militia, Chris Fortier, Guti, Blk Market, Biach Corp to name a few!
